With your support, HEAL Africa is able to continue to extend its mission of "Health and Healing for DR Congo". Because you stand with us in partnership, survivors of rape are able to heal, communities are rebuilding with hope and vibrancy after years of conflict, and those in need have access to life-saving medical care. Your gift gives hope and a chance at new life to thousands - one person at a time. Thank you.
In mid-June I was once again in the town of Kibumba in DR Congo's North Kivu Province, where HEAL Africa's programs are changing the ways women are viewed and valued by themselves and their families. At the HEAL Africa Wamama Simameni (safe house) in Kibumba, I met with counselor Jacqueline and a houseful of women and babies. Many of the women have joined a solidarity group that makes rotating loans from the participants' savings. They now buy goods at wholesale and retail them for a small profit. The proceeds support school fees and medical care for their children. Their whole family benefits from what they've learned. Fighting has now engulfed that region, which has displaced the women and prevented them from meeting at the house. Although they now live in temporary shelters miles from their homes, they have built a supportive base with one another to draw upon in this difficult time. The safe house remains structurally intact and a place to which they will hopefully return
to begin rebuilding their communities. What they have learned cannot be lost or destroyed. Their friendships and relationships will continue to build and strengthen their community!
HEAL Africa makes lasting impact in lives of individuals and communities because our programs address the whole person and the whole community.
